The story

Instead of app fatigue a pass that's just there.

The old app had features — and friction. Login, forced updates, push permissions, storage space. The wallet card has none of that. It's there when the customer holds the phone to the terminal, and it's there when the phone vibrates.

The company

A premium fashion retailer with 5 stores across northern Germany, around 25,000 members in their classic loyalty programme. The old iOS/Android app had 12,000 downloads, but only about 4,200 monthly active users — and a 41 % uninstall rate within the first 120 days.

The challenge

Push campaigns reached less than a third of the programme. New members had to fill in a tablet at the till, scan a QR code, install an app and verify themselves — many dropped off right there. And on the shop floor customers regularly asked: "which card was that again?"

Our approach

We rebuilt the loyalty card as an Apple and Google Wallet pass. Existing members migrate via an emailed QR code, new members are onboarded at the till in under 15 seconds — one tap on the screen, one QR scan, done. Push messages are delivered straight through the wallet, geofenced to stores, and the card surfaces automatically every time the phone hits a payment terminal.

Rollout in practice

We went live over a weekend — migration ran automatically through a personalised email with a single "add card to wallet" button. Within 14 days, 76 % of existing members had migrated, many of them customers who had long since deleted the old app. The first push ("early access to the new winter season this week") went out two days later — store-visit conversion: 9.4 %.
